first_imgANGRY villagers are pleading with their curate to stay in the parish after he quit on Sunday.Father Bill McGeady, 74, stepped down after a campaign of intimidation by just four people from the parish. He even says he was physically assaulted on one occasion. But the rest of the parish of Glencolmcille – and many from further afield – are hoping he will change his mind. The following is a letter sent to us tonight:Dear Father McGeady,Since your arrival with us in the autumn of 2010, you have brought a breath of fresh air to the parish. We look forward to your Masses on Sunday. Simple and beautiful. It was great to see so many of our younger people attending again and that Father McGeady was down to you.We all know rightly what happened. And we also know why it happened. Some people just cannot let go.You rightly ran things your way and we, the people of Glen, were right behind you.You are a great priest and we have been Blessed to have had you. We want you to know that 99.9% of people support you. There is no question about that. We have all tried to call you at the parochial house today and you were unable to answer. We sincerely hope that you see this because we want you to know the true feelings of the people of this area.We hope you will change your mind, because Glen without you will be a darker place.God Bless You.
