Get inspired and, whether you’d like to go with the flow or spend your holidays away from the crowds, start planning your own last minute escape.Where do we go?To avoid all the big numbers, let’s imagine the British holidaying public consist of just 100 people.A significant majority – 41 of us, to be exact – would choose to go to Spain where we can enjoy more reliable summer weather.18 people would choose to go travel further afield to the USA.The rest of us would prefer somewhere a little closer to home, with 10 people travelling to Italy, 9 to France, 8 to Greece, 8 to Portugal and 6 to Turkey.How do trends change?Our taste in summer travel evolves and the number of people travelling to different countries varies from year to year. For example, 3 more of us decided to go to Spain and 1 more person each jetted off to Italy, France and Portugal this year than compared to 2015.Top 5 emerging destinationsSome of us might want to explore something new. We’ve seen a spike in searches for Ponta Delgada, Havana, Tokyo, Copenhagen and Sal. But don’t assume that tickets are cheaper the longer in advance you book. Tickets to Spain, Italy, France, Greece and Portugal were all cheaper 5 weeks or less before the departure date, with tickets to Greece hitting their lowest price just 1 week before. They were up to 12% cheaper than the average annual price.It worth keeping an eye.
